Why I love it:
This mask is one of my new favorites – using it is so satisfying and feels decadent!! The formula looks and lightly smells like honey (but is not sticky at all) and when you apply it, the product warms a little bit. In 15 minutes, after you wash it off with warm (not hot) water and pat dry with a baby washcloth to protect your skin’s delicate natural barrier, your skin has a very fresh, dewy appearance and feels hydrated and nourished. Just don’t forget to immediately apply a moisturizer after you pat dry or those benefits will disappear as the moisture evaporates off of your skin! Even my patients with very sensitive skin do not seem to have a reaction to the ingredients in this mask. So, if you’re looking for a hydrating and calming mask, this is a great option for all skin types.
Of course, I love that this is a clean product and that the brand focuses on using biodegradable ingredients.
Propolis: I think propolis is a fascinating natural ingredient. Bees harvest sap and resin from trees and add their own enzymes and beeswax to produce this powerful resin-like substance. Bees then paint the propolis inside their homes – filling in crevices in honeycombs – in order to serve as protection for the hive. It is known for its ability to fight against bacteria and is packed with antioxidants. Read more about propolis here.
Royal Jelly: Royal jelly is believed to be a multi-tasking ingredient with anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties. Its antioxidants help to soothe the skin and to fight free radical damage (which contributes to premature aging). I find that it can be very hydrating and healing when used topically. Of course, if you have an allergy to bees, honey, or pollen, speak to your doctor before incorporating any products including royal jelly into your skincare regimen.
