Sunscreen and Sun Protection
Let’s cut to the chase. If you get one or more blistering sunburns in childhood or adolescence, you have more than doubled your chances of developing melanoma later in life. Every year, there are more new cases of skin cancer than cases of breast, prostate, lung, and colon cancer combined. One person dies of Melanoma every hour. If that wasn’t enough to get you thinking about sun protection, how about this: sun exposure is the #1 cause of premature skin aging. Yup, that means wrinkles, brown spots, and dilated pores, all thanks to the sun!
But, there is absolutely no reason to be afraid because the solution is readily accessible. Taking the best care of your skin and having beautiful, healthy skin does not mean hiding inside or staying in the shade because that’s not realistic at all! I love to feel the warm sun on my skin as much as I bet you do and I want my daughter to have wonderful memories of seemingly endless days by the ocean playing in the sand!
It’s all about balance and having the best tools and information available at your fingertips, including which sunscreens are truly effective, which supplements or foods can further protect your skin, and even what clothing to wear. And, if you want to look bronze and have glistening skin, rock a faux glow. No tanning beds! Just, no!
And, when it comes to the tools we have, are they all truly safe for our skin, for our children, and for our environment? You’ve heard words like oxybenzone and nanotechnology. What do these terms mean and what do they mean for you?
It’s my job to stay on the pulse of all of this information and it is my mission to share all of it with you because this is an area which is about true skin health and safety. Of course, I will keep this section updated with all of the latest information, so check back frequently!
