Dr. Bowe visits the Rachael Ray Show to share some of the hottest trends in skincare to fight the damaging effects of pollution and keep your skin healthy and radiant!
Want to look younger without doing pricey treatments at the dermatologist or plastic surgeon’s office? (Who doesn’t?!) Check out three cutting-edge devices and potions that NYC dermatologist Dr. Whitney Bowe recommends, which are easy to use right in the comfort of your own home.
Problem Area: Crow’s Feet
Price: One month supply plus pod is $199. For optimal results, use for three months. Results may vary.
This is a device that uses pods to deliver anti-aging ingredients into the skin. Dr. Bowe explains that the pods are attached to a magnetic charge which uses micro currents to push hyaluronic acid into the skin, while at the same time smoothing out the skin.
“I’m such a science dork so this fascinates me,” she says. “Instead of just putting on a cream or serum on the surface of the skin, this helps anti-aging ingredients penetrate a little bit deeper.”
Problem Area: Thinning Eyelashes
Product: Mascara with Lash Fibers
Price: Less than $20.
Who knew thinning hair can occur not only on your head, but even your eyelashes! Eyelash growth has four stages: growth, resting, shedding and re-growth, Dr. Bowe explains, and your lashes continuously cycle through these stages. As we age, eyelash follicles can slow or stop producing new lashes altogether.
On top of that, Dr. Bowe says, “If you wear eye makeup and you rub the eye makeup [off at the end of the day], any trauma, any friction is actually going to slow down the ability of your follicles to produce hairs.”
But don’t worry, there’s an easy way to make your lashes look noticeably thicker. She recommends using a type of mascara that includes lash fibers made from green tea leaves, which will physically bulk up your lashes.
Problem Area: Age Spots
Product: Dr. Jart’s Pore Minimalist Black Charcoal Sheet Mask
Price: $35 per package of five. For best results, use once per week.
One of Dr. Bowe’s favorite ways to combat pollution (which she says can speed up skin aging) is with charcoal masks. She explains that the charcoal binds to the impurities and pollution particles on the skin, so when you remove the mask, you remove the pollution. Over time, by eliminating the trigger for the brown spots, your body can exfoliate away the old spots and they won’t be replaced by new ones.
